SUNDESH, CSR hand of Dabur, opened SUNDESH Public Library and the Nari Shakti Cutting-Stitching Training Centre in the village of Shivaya. Founding president Mr. Pradip Burman inaugurated the library and training centre. In his remarks to the trainees and kids, Mr. Pradip Burman stated, “youth needed a platform like this in the competitive world of today, where young people can concentrate while working in a group to prepare for competitive exams. The youth will benefit greatly from this library.”

The organization has already completed numerous development projects in the village of Shivaya, such as prohibiting open defecation, installing toilets, desk benches, and ceiling fans in schools, etc. Former Pradhan Devendra Sharma and Subodh Rana appreciated the works of SUNDESH and thanked everyone.

With an increasing population, the country’s economy is also rising. In that context, sustainability is becoming a major concern. Economic progress is critical, but not worth it when it comes at the cost of environmental damage. As a result, climate change has become the talk of the town and to cope, a number of meetings have been organized, including COP 27 in Glasgow, in order to reverse climate change and reduce CO2 emissions.

As a result, every country expects other countries to reduce their carbon emissions first. Developing countries are on an unending path of development that is causing carbon damage, whereas developed countries are reaping enormous benefits from carbon credits for their efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

The continuous debate also highlights the fact that we will never stop communicating until the climate becomes irreversible and creates challenges such as rising sea levels, raging storms, searing heat, ferocious fires, severe drought, and widespread species loss. The effects of climate change are threatening health, communities, the economy, and a sustainable future. Thus, we indeed need to limit carbon pollution and aggressively move away from dirty fossil fuels toward cleaner power.

Facts are sacred and we must accept them as they loom large over us as Damocles’ sword. The risk of being called an ‘alarmist’ is worth taking in the war to save our only abode in the universe, the Earth.

One of the most troubling realities of human existence is the destruction of the planet and the gradual move towards the end of life as we know it. Planet disaster, a term commonly associated with large-scale disasters and events capable of destroying the planet, has been a subject of discussion for many decades. Unfortunately, not much has been achieved in an attempt to reverse the hand of the clock.

From acidification of water bodies, rising sea levels and climate change, to global water crisis, air pollution, and large-scale extinction of species, so many human activities have altered the ecosystem and affected its balance significantly. Some theorists have pointed toward rising population as the major cause for planet disaster, underscoring the situation where there are now too many humans for the limited space and available resources on planet earth. It will be in the fitness of things to examine this line of thought.

Over the years, a lot of work has been done to bring sustainability issues into schools.

To emphasize the importance of sustainability, it is necessary to teach sustainability in schools so that the children get first-hand experience of many aspects of sustainability.

Both Center for Science & Environment (CSE) and The Climate Reality Project have green school programs and have produced booklets with criteria for them, to be called “ a Green School”.

For this purpose, the Mobius Foundation (MF) is building a school in Coorg, which will be called “ The World Environment School” (WES), in a 100 acre site.

The central value of the school will be its green credentials. This will be reflected in its architecture, curriculum, co-curriculum and community programs. Environmental protection and sustainability is the core of the school.

It will have the following features:

• Located in the Western Ghats, which is an area of Bio-diversity.
• Experiential learning
• Solar panels and wind mills for generating electricity.
• 10 Acre area will be a bio-diversity park made with the help of the forest department. It will contain endemic trees as well as medicinal plants. This is called “Devakad’’. It exists in each village and the area has strict rules to safeguard the vegetation.
• Will have a small dairy and chicken farm – will make compost of the cow dung and produce gobar gas.

On the campus, the children will develop an understanding of some of the methods to reduce the carbon footprint.

There will be an environment lab.,where projects can be demonstrated.

Water harvesting and no borewells. We shall create ponds, from which water will be drawn for drinking as well as for gardens.

We have engaged the Center for Environment Education (CEE), Ahmedabad, to create a special environment curriculum for Classes 6-10 . The children will form small groups and carry out projects which demonstrate sustainability. They will grow their own vegetables. Each class will have projects with their level of difficulty according to the class standard.

Zero waste campus. The key to success will be the teachers who will be specially trained to teach environmental issues.

It is also necessary to build character and discipline along with academics and environment curriculum–This will be a part of the school ethos.

वर्ल्ड इन्वायरमेंटल स्कूल में पर्यावरण के साथ ही प्राचीन प्राकृतिक सुंदरता एवं भविष्य में बच्चों को जिम्मेवार नागरिक बनाए जाने की भूमिका रहेगी। पहाड़ियों में बनने वाले इस स्कूल का फोकस छात्रों के बीच मजबूत पर्यावरण और नैतिक मूल्यों का निर्माण करना है। भारत में यह अपनी तरह का पहला स्कूल होगा। स्कूल में वह छात्र अध्ययनरत होंगे जो शिक्षा के अलावा पर्यावरण की सुरक्षा और स्थिरता की ओर जागरूक हैं। विधानसभा अध्यक्ष ने वर्ल्ड इन्वायरमेंटल स्कूल खोले जाने के प्रस्ताव पर खुशी जाहिर करते हुए मोबियस फाउंडेशन के चेयरमैन प्रदीप बर्मन को पूर्ण सहयोग का आश्वासन दिया।
